On Monday, a 56-year-old woman lost her life in Bangalore’s Sarjapur area while crossing potholes during heavy rains caused by cyclonic conditions, according to the Times of India.

Mallika was riding as a passenger on her husband Muniraju’s scooter when a mini-truck collided with them after they slowed down to avoid dangerous road conditions. The incident marks the first rain-related death in the city this year, with average rainfall of 62 mm, leading to widespread waterlogging of low-lying areas and main roads, the TOI report added.

As heavy rains fell across Bengaluru, flooding streets and upending normal life, frustrated residents took to social media to vent their anger against civic authorities.

From waterlogged streets to paralyzed traffic, the deluge triggered a wave of public outrage, with many criticizing the government and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for their failure to manage the city’s infrastructure.

Heavy rain in Bangalore on Monday evening also caused chaos at the Bangalore airport, delaying at least 20 flights and leading to the diversion of several flights. The city was hit by heavy rain, forcing schools to close for the second time in a week.

More than twenty flights to the Karnataka airport were delayed on Monday evening due to heavy rain and thunderstorms in the city, especially its northern part. An Air India flight from Delhi and four Indigo flights were diverted to Chennai, airport sources told HT.com.
