The Karnataka police also suspect that it is a case of murder, but the post-mortem report would shed more light.

Belagavi city police have launched an investigation into the death of a businessman and exhumed his body for autopsy following a complaint from his daughter who suspected her mother’s involvement, police said on Thursday.

According to police, Santosh Padmannavar (47) died on October 9. His daughter Sanjana Padmannavar (18), who was pursuing her higher education in Bangalore, returned home and cremation took place according to Lingayat tradition.

Sanjana learned that her father had died of cardiac arrest and as per her wish, he was given eyes. However, she could not believe that her healthy father could die of a heart attack, they said.

When Sanjana tried to view the footage from several CCTV cameras at her house, she found them all deleted.

She became suspicious and, with the help of her relatives, filed a police complaint suspecting the involvement of her mother Uma, police said.

Following the complaint, the police took up the matter, exhumed the body and sent it for post-mortem.

CCTV footage obtained from neighbors showed two people entering their house.

The police question Uma and two others.

“We are questioning four people, including two servants. We will have a clear idea after receiving the autopsy report,” Belagavi police commissioner Ida Martin Marbaniang told reporters.

The police also suspect that it was a murder, but the autopsy report would shed more light.
