Skeletal remains found in Jay, investigation underway

JAY, Maine (WMTW) – The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit is assisting local authorities after skeletal remains were discovered in Jay Saturday morning.

Police say the remains were found near 24 Elm Street shortly before noon. The Jay Police Department was alerted and requested assistance from state investigators to determine the identity and circumstances of the discovery.

The remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where forensic experts will work to identify the individual.

Authorities have not yet released further details on the possible age, gender or cause of death.
