Pat Mahomes Sr., a former Major League Baseball pitcher and father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, appeared to invoke his famous son’s name when he was arrested by police last February.

According to police video footage obtained by TMZ, Mahomes pleaded with officers while handcuffed and mentioned his son’s name several times.

“Can I say one thing?” Mahomes Sr. started. “My son is getting ready to play in the fucking Super Bowl.”

Mahomes Sr. admitted he “had a few drinks” before raising concerns about how the arrest could hurt his son and the Chiefs as they prepare for the Super Bowl. “I’m not drunk, I promise. I’ve had a few drinks, but he can’t have that right now. This can’t happen.”

The elder Mahomes was ultimately charged with drunk driving.

Police conducted a traffic stop because Mahomes Sr. was driving a vehicle with an expired registration. Officers took him into custody after he failed field sobriety tests, police reported.

Mahomes Sr. went on to explain that the car he was driving at the time was a gift and that he would have the proper registration in “a day or two.”

“We’ve never had a star here in this business and now we have the chance to be a star and now we’re going to have a scandal,” he said. “…We’re going to have a scandal for no reason because my registration when he gave me the car hasn’t come in yet, which would probably be in a day or two.”

The officer informed Mahomes Sr. that he could not make any expectations “based on who you are.”

“Look, here’s my thing, I’m not trying to make this a bigger deal than it is, but unfortunately, like you said, I have a job that I have to do and I can’t just change it depending on who you are,” the officer noted.

Despite hearing the officer’s information, Mahomes expressed concern that the situation would harm his son and predicted it would have a negative impact on the Chiefs – if the team ended up losing the big game .

“Man, it’s crazy. My son’s getting ready to play in the fucking Super Bowl and I’m doing interviews, like five or six a day, and then, now this shit’s gonna be on the news who’s gonna fuck him, and that will probably screw him up,” Mahomes Sr. said. “And he probably won’t win the Super Bowl. But that’s OK. If that’s what you want to do, that’s fine.
