North Carolina man released on bail after allegedly threatening FEMA workers; authorities say threats are increasing – ABC 6 News

The day’s latest local, regional and national news events are presented by the ABC 6 news team, along with sports, weather and traffic updates.

(ABC 6 News) — Officials say a “persistent” and “dangerous flow of misinformation” is fueling threats aimed at FEMA workers on the ground in the Southeast following major hurricanes Helene and Milton.

The administration was forced to suspend its field activities following threats against its operations in North Carolina.

Over the weekend, William Parsons, 44, was arrested after police say he threatened to harm workers while allegedly armed with an assault rifle and a handgun fist.

Authorities are calling for an end to the spread of false information about the storm.

“The federal family has been working alongside the state here since day one. These are people putting their lives on hold to help those who have lost everything,” said FEMA Director Deanne Criswell.

The Justice Department says it is investigating an increase in threats and will seek accountability.
