Siouxland celebrates a weekend of fall fun at Fall Fest

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – With fall in full swing, the Siouxland area celebrates the season with Fall Fest, featuring activities for all ages.

With over 16 different locations offering fall-themed events, families could participate in pumpkin decorating, hayrides, haunted houses and much more.

The Sioux City Farmers Market was filled with people enjoying local vendors and delicious treats.

On Saturday, October 12, festivities included pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting and playground games.

To get the kids excited for this spooky season, there was a costume contest and a chance to “trick or treat” at the farmers market.

“There was a great turnout, we just had a costume contest for our kids not too long ago and there were so many cute kids walking around in their costumes, it was just fantastic,” said Melissa Gritzmaker, director of the Sioux City Farmers Market. .

At the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, they offered treats like caramel, apples and apple juice, cooked a campfire in the Dutch oven, read “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” and had opportunity to practice archery. Fall Fest also provided an 18th century candle making booth.

“It’s wonderful, they’re so excited because you know, for them, they go to a store and buy a candle, they don’t actually make the candle and so I know it’s metaphorical, but their faces go light up when they get it done, I love that the kids are so excited about these activities,” said Amanda Gibson, educational coordinator for the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center.
