Jind man arrested for making ‘death threat’ against Haryana CM

A Jind police spokesperson said the accused posted a message on a WhatsApp group created in the name of newly elected Julana MLA Vinesh Phogat’s husband Sombrir Rathi.

A man has been arrested for allegedly issuing a “death threat” to the Haryana Chief Minister in a WhatsApp group in Julana, police said on Saturday.

The accused has been identified as Ajmer, a native of Deverar village of Jind district.

A Jind police spokesperson said the accused posted a message on a WhatsApp group created in the name of newly elected Julana MLA Vinesh Phogat’s husband Sombrir Rathi.

The spokesperson added, “We received a complaint that the accused had threatened to kill the CM in the same way Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated. An FIR was registered under section 351 (3) (criminal intimidation by threat of causing death or hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Julana police station.

The threat was issued on October 8, the day the results of the Haryana assembly elections were announced.

The accused is said to be a supporter of Vinesh Phogat and the Congress party.

Police said the accused confessed to posting the comments while drunk.

Jind Police Commissioner Sumit Kumar said he had asked the police officer of Julana police station to promptly arrest the accused Ajmer, who was later produced before a court here and sent to judicial custody.
