According to police, Prashant Parashar, 20, resides in Devi Lal Colony in Sector 9 and his friend Happy Sharma, 19, hails from Ashok Vihar-3. The duo suffered multiple injuries to their arms and are out of danger. The accused, Mohit Chawla, had fled after the incident and was arrested on Saturday evening from Dhankot.

On Friday around 6 p.m., Parashar and Sharma were going to a gym in Sector 5 on their respective two-wheelers, police said, adding that Parashar decided to park his vehicle in front of the accused’s house and go further with Sharma on top of her. scooter.

“At that time, Chawla was sitting with three female members of his family outside the house, and all of them told Parashar not to park the bike here, so he went and kept it elsewhere,” said a senior police officer.

Parashar, in his complaint, told the police that Sharma was meanwhile waiting outside the house on his scooter and when he returned, the family started accusing them of stealing vehicles in the locality. “This led to a heated argument and Chawla brought fishing rods from the house. Parashar picked up a brick from the road as defense. He then took out a country-made pistol from his house and opened fire on the two men,” the officer added.

They informed the police control room, after which an emergency response vehicle arrived at the spot and took them to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Investigators said they narrowly escaped when the bullet grazed them.

Sandeep Kumar, public relations officer of Gurugram police, said the man fled the scene soon after the incident. “He will be remanded in police custody for further questioning after being produced in court. An investigation is underway to determine where he obtained the illegal weapon from and whether he has any criminal history,” he added.

Meanwhile, following Parashar’s complaint, an FIR was registered against Chawla under sections 109 (1) (attempt to murder) and 351 (2) (criminal intimidation) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the weapons at the Sector 9A police station on Friday evening.
