Louisiana man pleads guilty to buying expensive cars in Jackson using stolen identities

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – A Louisiana man pleaded guilty Friday to two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud in a scheme to use the stolen identities of others to purchase expensive vehicles in Jackson, Mississippi.

According to court documents and statements made in court, between approximately May 2023 and June 13, 2023, Paul Anthony Robinson, 33, of New Orleans, and his co-conspirators, completed credit applications and purchased or attempted to purchase expensive vehicles from dealers in the Jackson metro area.

Robinson and his accomplices would steal the identity information of creditworthy individuals.

After obtaining this identity information, the suspects created fake identification documents in these individuals’ names and then posed as these individuals at car dealerships to apply for vehicle financing.

The suspects purchased two vehicles worth more than $127,000 under these stolen identities.

According to authorities, they planned to purchase more vehicles before law enforcement intervened.

Robinson is scheduled to be sentenced on February 19, 2025 and faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

Robinson’s co-conspirators, Sarah Elizabeth Calderon, Joshanique Elouise Bailey, David L. Jones, Jr., and Anna Waldei, are charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, and aggravated identity theft. Their cases are still awaiting trial.
