Greenwood apartment fire kills one, authorities investigate – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indianapolis Traffic

GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) — One person died in an apartment fire in Greenwood Tuesday afternoon, according to authorities.

Information about the person was not shared in a news release issued Tuesday evening by Tyler Swardson, public information officer for the Greenwood Fire Department.

Firefighters were called shortly after 4:45 p.m. Tuesday to battle the fire in the 400 block of Southbridge Drive. It’s in the Cambridge Square Apartments, located off County Line Road, southeast of its intersection with Madison Avenue.

A caller, who was visiting the apartment and was unable to reach the occupant, said the hallway was full of smoke.

Firefighters arrived at the one-story building and found no signs of fire on either side of the building, Swardson said.

“During the search and investigation, firefighters located a subject in the apartment where the fire was reported. This individual was transported to Eskenazi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by hospital staff,” the statement said.

The Greenwood Fire and Police Departments along with the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office hope to later determine the cause of the fire.
