Wayne County authorities search for man linked to 3-year-old’s injury

PINE BELT, Miss. (WDAM) – The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating a man wanted in connection with the injury of a 3-year-old child.

Wayne County Sheriff Jerry Mosely said Wednesday evening that Wallace Spotts was wanted in a shooting that injured a little girl who was in the backseat of a vehicle.

Mosley said Spotts, who is also wanted in Florida, should be considered armed and dangerous.

Mosley did not provide an age or address for Spotts.

Spotts is wanted in Wayne County in connection with an incident Friday afternoon on U.S. 45 just south of Buckatunna, Mosely said.

Mosely said two vehicles were involved.

A vehicle contained two adults, driver and passenger, as well as the 3-year-old girl, who was in the back seat.

Mosely said Spotts was in a second vehicle and fired one shot at the first vehicle. The girl was hit by shrapnel in the neck, Mosely said.

Mosely said his office was notified by the two adults and the injured girl was taken to a Jackson hospital.

She has since been released and is recovering at home.
