Senator Lidia Thorpe deletes social media post of beheaded King Charles III, says: ‘That’s not what I’m talking about’

Senator Lidia Thorpe has issued an explanation and deleted an image from her social media after facing fierce backlash following a third incident on Monday.

Senator Thorpe narrowly avoided arrest on Monday morning in Canberra after he was involved in an altercation over the arrival of King Charles.

Later that day, she interrupted the end of the king’s speech in the Great Hall of Parliament by shouting “You are not my king.”

On Monday evening, an image of a beheaded King Charles III appeared on Senator Thorpe’s social media account X.

The image, believed to have been illustrated by Matt Chun, showed King Charles’ head on the ground, decapitated and dead.

A caption “You are not our king” was included in the image.

Senator Thorpe deleted the post later Monday evening and offered an explanation.

“Earlier this evening, without my knowledge, one of my collaborators shared an image on my Instagram stories created by another account,” she wrote on X.

“I deleted it as soon as I saw it.

“I would not intentionally share anything that could be considered to encourage violence against anyone.

“That’s not what I do.”

During her interruption in the Great Hall, Senator Thrope was first heard shouting, “This is not your country.”

“You are not my king.”

Senator Thorpe entered the room and rushed down the hall, sparking an unmissable protest.

“You are not our king, you are not our sovereign,” she continued.

“You committed genocide against our people.

“Give us our land rights.

“Give us what you stole from us. Our babies, our people, you have destroyed our land.

“This is not your land, you are not our king.

“We want a treaty in this country.”

His actions were widely condemned.
