Power outage, technical glitch interrupts water supply to Ggm Sector 21

Water supply to Gurugram’s Sector 21 was completely disrupted on Saturday, causing inconvenience to residents who have been facing erratic supply for the past four months. The supply disruption was reportedly caused by a technical glitch that occurred for several hours at the Basai water treatment plant and also aggravated by a power outage at the Sector 23 pumping station.

Residents, who have been facing similar problems for months, have expressed their concerns. “We are forced to store water in buckets daily, knowing that the supply could stop at any time. This has been going on for four months and nothing seems to change,” said Rahul Mehta, a resident of Sector 21. “Every time we file a complaint, we are told that this is a temporary problem, but we have also heard this for a long time. often.”

Water supply in Sector 21 has been irregular for several months, with frequent disruptions at night. Earlier reports said similar problems were caused by interruptions at the Basai water treatment plant and power outages at the Sector 23 pumping station. Despite repeated complaints to the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) and the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), no permanent solution has been implemented.

Responding to the complaints, GMDA spokesperson Neha Sharma said, “If there is any issue regarding irregular supply, we will ensure that it is checked and resolved properly. »

“The authorities just don’t seem to care.” It’s always the same excuse – power outage or water stoppage – but nothing changes,” said Ritu Sharma, another resident. “We have sent written complaints, called helplines and even visited offices, but the situation remains as bad as ever. »

According to people familiar with the matter, the water supply disruptions are largely due to disruptions in operations at the Basai plant and the fact that Sector 21 is at the far end of the water supply network. of the GMDA and that this area repeatedly faces water shortages, especially during summer. The local administration had previously assured residents that repairs were underway at the Basai plant and steps would be taken to stabilize supplies, but recurring outages have left the community skeptical.

“Water is a basic need and it is unacceptable that we are struggling like this,” Mehta added. “If this continues, residents will be forced to take matters into their own hands, including protesting. We can no longer live like this,” he said.

Despite growing anger among residents, no clear action plan has been communicated by authorities to resolve the ongoing problem. Residents are now demanding immediate intervention to restore water supply.
