Former youth referee pleads guilty to child sex crimes in Warrick Co.

WARRICK CO., Ind. (WFIE) – A man who was a youth baseball umpire in Warrick County has pleaded guilty to several crimes related to child sex.

Stephen Custer was stopped last year after authorities said he was attacked by a parent during one of the games.

Before the attack, police say the parent’s child ran out of the bathroom screaming that Custer had taken photos of him.

For example, another child made the same statement.

The father admitted to hitting Custer, who was under 18 at the time.

According to the sheriff’s office, authorities found 22 files of child sexual abuse material and seven voyeurism files on his Microsoft tablet and phone.

Deputies say these voyeurism files were videos from multiple bathrooms showing boys using the urinals and stalls.

As of Monday morning, court records show Custer pleaded guilty to child exploitation (attempt to commit), possession of child pornography and voyeurism using a camera.

Warrick Superior Court officials say he will have to register on the sex offender registry for 10 years.

Authorities say he also received a two-year suspended prison sentence.
