Two teens charged with carjacking in Nashville, additional charges in Mt. Juliet after pursuit

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Two teenagers were charged with carjacking in Nashville and face additional charges in Mount Juliet for fleeing officers Friday evening, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) announced ).

MNPD said Eduardo Melendez-Pineda, 18, and Melany Sigaran-Pineda, 15, are accused of approaching a man’s vehicle at his Patricia Drive residence while he and another occupant were in the car and hijacked them at gunpoint.

Melendez-Pineda allegedly fired one shot at the SUV and another into the air as he approached the vehicle. Sigaran-Pineda then ordered the two men out of the vehicle at gunpoint, and once the victims complied, the suspects fled in the car, police said.

On Friday, Melendez-Pineda and Sigaran-Pineda drove the stolen vehicle to the Smyrna area and picked up a 17-year-old man, police said, but when they entered the Mount Juliet area, a camera scan license plate alert on the vehicle.

A police chase was then launched by Mt. Juliet police officers. The vehicle returned to the Davidson County area where it crashed at the intersection of Hobson Pike and Smith Springs Road.

The three occupants of the stolen SUV fled on foot after the accident, while the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.

Melendez-Pineda was apprehended by police and police recovered a black bag that an MNPD helicopter allegedly saw him throw away and which contained a handgun.

Sigaran-Pineda had been picked up by a friend but was arrested after police stopped a vehicle and found her in the backseat armed with a semi-automatic pistol, police said. The driver of the vehicle, Kevin Miranda-Robles, 23, was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, possession of an open container of alcohol in the car and no driver’s license.

An MJPD officer and their K-9 apprehended the 17-year-old, but he does not appear to have been involved in Thursday’s carjacking.

Sigaran-Pineda allegedly admitted her involvement in the carjacking and was charged in juvenile court.

Police said Melendez-Pineda refused to be interviewed and remained in jail on $82,500 bail.
