“Inappropriate video”: a couple seeks safety

Amritsar: Amid ongoing controversies arising from an alleged ‘inappropriate video’ that surfaced last year, a couple has appealed to the Akal Takhtsupreme temporal seat of the Sikhs, to ensure its security.
The couple’s appeal follows objections from a group of Nihangs regarding the continued posting of “indecent” videos on social media, which they say are “contrary” to Sikh principles. In a fifty-second video shared on social media, the turbaned man is seen with his wife, who has her head covered with a dupatta, and says that he would approach Akal Takht and present a asks the jathedar, asking if he can continue to wear a turban.
He said he would also seek help from the jathedar for his “safety” and that of his family. “For the past few days, questions have been raised as to whether I can continue to wear a turban. To solve this problem, I will go to Akal Takht with my family and submit an application. If I’m wrong, I agree to be punished. However, if wrongdoing happens to me and my family, we deserve to be heard. I am confident that we will get justice as the Akal Takht is the supreme authority of Sikhs and can discern right from wrong,” the man said.
In the recent past, a group of Nihangs staged a strong protest outside the controversial restaurant in Jalandhar, alleging that the “inappropriate viral videos” shared by the couple were having a “negative impact” on the children. They said if the couple deleted the videos from social media it would be OK.
