Navajo leader calls for resignation of tribal vice president amid political upheaval

Associated Press

The president of the largest Native American tribe in the United States has withdrawn his responsibilities from his vice president. Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren says Navajo Vice President Richelle Montoya no longer represents his administration. This decision was announced Tuesday during a press conference. The tribe has been mired by political upheaval that began earlier this year when the vice president came forward with allegations of bullying and sexual harassment within the administration. An independent investigation was launched and other opponents began collecting signatures across the reservation in an effort to recall Nygren.
