“Let me be the living martyr in this matter”

“Let me be the living martyr in this matter”

The Malayalam film industry has been rocked by a series of sexual harassment allegations, following the release of the Justice Hema committee report. Among the accused was actor Jayasurya, who was facing serious allegations from an actress. At the time, Jayasurya, who was in the United States, categorically denied the accusations and expressed concerns about the harmful impact of false statements on his personal life. Now, after cooperating with authorities, Jayasurya has gone to the press to further defend himself against the accusations.

What Jayasurya said

Speaking about the allegations, Jayasurya strongly denied any wrongdoing. “There have been two false allegations against me. I don’t know why the complainant, who initially denied that it was me who had apparently done these things, continued to name me in her allegation,” Jayasurya told media as quoted by Indian Express.

Jayasurya then presented his own evidence to dispute the allegations, pointing out inconsistencies in the timing and locations mentioned by the complainant.

“She said that the unforgettable incident happened in 2013 on the sets of Pigman in Thodupuzha. But the film was completed in 2011 and was shot in Koothaatthukulam. Then she talked about a certain incident that happened at the secretariat in 2008. Firstly, we got only 2 hours of permission to shoot the song clips, that too outside the venue. So how did she get to the second floor? Jayasurya asked.

Jayasurya calls himself a ‘living martyr’

Jayasurya also highlighted the harm that false accusations can cause to real victims of harassment. “In light of these false allegations, many sincere and true voices are being silenced. I would fight these claims to the end,” Jayasurya said.

“It can happen to anyone. At least the media gives me space to explain my point of view. And the others? What will happen to his family? Won’t his image be shattered? Let this be the last time this happens. Let me be the living martyr in this matter,” he said.

Despite the seriousness of the charges, Jayasurya clarified that no formal arrests had been made and that he had not had to apply for anticipatory bail. However, he refrained from discussing details of the investigation, saying: “I can’t say what I said inside (to authorities). I can’t divulge everything. All I would like to say is that I completely deny all these baseless allegations. »

Jayasurya is not the only figure from the Malayalam film industry to face such allegations. Other prominent names including Nivin Pauly, actors Siddique, Mukesh and Edavela Babu, and director Ranjith were also involved. Nivin Pauly, like Jayasurya, spoke to the press the same day to reject the accusations against him.
