Large group of migrants arrested at southern border

A large group of illegal immigrants has been spotted in Texas near the southern border, some from Iran and Africa, authorities said.

Video footage captured by a drone shows 134 migrants in Maverick County, which sits on the Texas-Mexico border, on Thursday, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) said.

The group included 32 unaccompanied children and minors and seven immigrants of special interest from Iran and Angola. Immigrants of special interest are those who potentially pose a risk to the national security of the United States.

Earlier this month, dozens of illegal immigrants from countries linked to widespread terrorist activity were arrested at the South Texas border.

Some came from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Egypt and India.

“It’s this type of activity, these attempted illegal crossings between ports of entry by people coming from areas that are hotspots for terrorist activity which clearly highlight the concerns of Governor Abbott and the State of Texas,” DPS Director Steven McCraw said at the time.
