New Jersey toughens penalties for home invasion and residential burglary

New Jersey now imposes harsher penalties on those convicted of home invasion and residential burglary.

Gov. Phil Murphy signed legislation that would increase penalties for burglary to first- and second-degree felonies.

Home burglary will be elevated to a first-degree felony and residential burglary to a second-degree felony.
