Louisiana man pleads guilty to car dealership fraud conspiracy

JACKSONMiss. (WJTV) – A Louisiana man pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud in a scheme to use other people’s stolen identities to purchase expensive vehicles in the Jackson, Mississippi area.

According to court documents, Paul Anthony Robinson, 33, of New Orleans, and his co-conspirators obtained the identity information of creditworthy individuals, created false identification documents in the names of those individuals, and then are posed as these people at car dealerships to apply for vehicle financing.

Robinson and his co-conspirators filled out credit applications and purchased or attempted to purchase expensive vehicles from dealerships in the Jackson metro area. The conspirators fraudulently purchased two vehicles with a total value of more than $127,000 and planned to fraudulently obtain more vehicles before law enforcement intervened.

According to prosecutors, the crimes were committed between May 2023 and June 13, 2023.

Robinson is scheduled to be sentenced on February 19, 2025 and faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

Prosecutors said Robinson’s co-conspirators, Sarah Elizabeth Calderon, Joshanique Elouise Bailey, David L. Jones, Jr. and Anna Waldei, are charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud and theft. Aggravated identity. Their cases are still awaiting trial. If convicted, they face a mandatory minimum sentence of two years in prison and a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
