Youth arrested after stolen car chase in Hopewell

The pursuit took place shortly after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. Hopewell police have not released many details about the incident, but it is believed to have started somewhere on Broadway.

A white sport utility vehicle was seen traveling at a high rate of speed on Broadway toward downtown. Two police cars were chasing them.

The chase wound through downtown and around the Appomattox Regional Library headquarters before returning to Randolph Road, aka State Route 10, and turning west. The incident ended seconds later when the car struck a utility pole in front of HCA TriCities Hospital. By then, several other police cars had joined the chase.
