Strictly fans are left cringing at Wynne Evans and Katya’s Jones’ ‘awkward’ return to the dance floor after THIS ‘hand mishap’ – as singer deletes social media after backlash

Strictly Come Dancing viewers were left cringing at Wynne Evans and Katya Jones’ ‘awkward’ return to the dance floor on Saturday – after the opera singer apparently deleted his X account amid backlash from last week’s “hand incident.”

They took a quick step as they attempted to shake off the viral toe-curling moment that saw Katya, 35, push Wynne’s hand away from her waist and snub his attempted high-five with her..

The dancer defended her celebrity partner, 52, saying he had been ‘portrayed as someone he is not’, as both men insist his ‘stray hand’ incident was a stupid joke.

But fans were left with a bitter taste in their mouths by the couple’s VT before speaking out, calling it too “wholesome” and “comfortable” in a bid to shut down rumors of their feud.

The clip saw the pair beaming as they climbed a Welsh mountain before Wynne gave Katya a piggyback ride.

Write: “My vote for #StrictlyComeDancing LOOK!” WE’RE TOTALLY COMFORTABLE WITH EACH OTHER goes to Wynne and Katya’s pre-dance story”: “A wholesome, non-controversial VT is coming”: “Make the VT feel like You hate yourself.”

Although the pair, who were once favorites for the Glitterball Trophy, became the bookmakers’ favorites to exit the competition, they earned a respectable 33 out of 40 for their Quickstep.

Before Saturday’s show Ladbrokes’ Alex Apati said: “Wynne’s chances have taken a huge hit over the past few days, and punters are convinced he will be in a dangerous position in the leaderboard this weekend… a stark contrast to where he was last week.’

Speaking on spin-off show It Takes Two on Monday, Wynne admitted he watched footage of the incident and confessed: “I can see how people could have misinterpreted it.”

Clinging to his arm, Katya said she “can’t stand” the criticism her co-star is receiving and was empathetic that there had been no wrongdoing.

She said: “The idea that this made me uncomfortable or offended in any way is completely absurd, and those who have doubts, you are wrong.” So I hope this is the end of it and you continue to make me smile.

She added: “I cannot stand here and watch this man be portrayed as someone he is not. In fact, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

“So I have to be absolutely clear that this whole incident, with the hand and the high five on Saturday night, was a joke between Wynne and I. Was it a stupid joke? Yes, was it a bad joke? Yes.’

The incident caused such concern among the BBC’s top brass, who had spent months battling accusations of misconduct in previous series, that a social inquiry was carried out.

A source said: “The Strictly Welfare team checked on both men individually to confirm that nothing was wrong and that both were comfortable continuing the partnership.

“Training Room researchers have kept meticulous records of what happens during each celebrity couple’s rehearsals, and Wynne and Katya are no different.”

“If there had been any form of bad behavior or reason for concern, it would have been reported by the social team.

“There was none and they consider the matter closed.”

The BBC confirmed that no further action was planned.

Wynne, who starred in GoCompare adverts for more than a decade, says he was left heartbroken by the fallout after some Strictly fans called for him to be axed from the show.

Speaking on BBC Radio Wales, where he presents a daily show, Mr Evans said: “I am absolutely heartbroken by the things that have been written about me in recent days.
