State police say a Norwich woman was driving with a blood-alcohol level three times the legal limit of .08 when she tried to evade police on Interstate 395 Sunday.

Police said Carly Armstrong, 44, of Norwich, was seen driving a Volvo erratically northbound at speeds in excess of 88 miles per hour.

Police said they unsuccessfully attempted to stop Armstrong using their lights and sirens and then unsuccessfully attempted to use a tire deflation device. Eventually, police placed one patrol car in front of her Volvo and the other behind it, slowing her down and stopping her.

Armstrong was charged with driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without insurance, speeding, reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and engaging an officer in pursuit, following too closely and failing to drive in the correct lane.

Arraigned Monday in Norwich Superior Court, court and corrections records show Armstrong remains held at the York Correctional Facility on $20,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court again Dec. 22.
