New York police officer arrested for DWI in East Harlem

NEW YORK — An off-duty New York City police officer was arrested early Thursday morning in East Harlem, authorities said.

Eli Garcia, a 50-year-old NYPD officer, was arrested at approximately 1:51 a.m. on October 17, 2024, at the 25th Precinct. He faces charges of driving while intoxicated (DWI), driving while impaired (DWAI), and refusing to take a breathalyzer test.

The New York Police Department did not provide further details about the circumstances of the arrest.
