US Marshals make chilling discovery at remote campsite

A man wanted on numerous child pornography charges was arrested by U.S. Marshals at a remote Connecticut campsite after avoiding capture for months.

Steven Labrecque, 40, of Douglas, Massachusetts, was found hiding at a remote campsite in Woodstock on Monday.

He was wanted by police in Franklin and New Bedford, Massachusetts, on numerous charges, including child pornography, photographing the private parts of a child, intimidating a witness, recklessly endangering a child, threatening, obscene behavior towards a minor, assault. and battery, U.S. Marshals said.

Labrecque, who had been hiding at the campground for months, was arrested and treated as a fugitive after being transported to Connecticut State Police.

He is awaiting extradition to his country of origin.

Authorities apprehended Labrecque through dozens of investigative efforts spread across several states.

“After attempts to locate and apprehend Labrecque failed, local police requested assistance from the US Marshals,” whose investigation led them to the campsite.

He was found in a wooded area near Prospect Street in Woodstock, north of Route 197, the Franklin Observer reported.

Photos from the site show a tent in the middle of a heavily wooded area where Labrecque allegedly camped for months while trying to hide from authorities.

Labrecque was wanted by two Massachusetts police agencies on charges of child pornography, photographing the private parts of a child, intimidating a witness, recklessly endangering a child, making threats and lewd remarks to a minor, assault and assault and battery.

The U.S. Marshals Service noted that Labrecque was believed to have been hiding in the remote campsite for months.
