Mother of 25-year-old British man who went missing while volunteering in Sardinia calls for new information three months later – as Italian authorities ‘enhance their investigation’

The mother of a British man who went missing while volunteering on a farm in Sardinia has called for new information as Italian authorities step up the investigation.

Michael Frison, 25, from Chard, Somerset, disappeared after walking in the Luras countryside last July.

Mr Frison, who grew up in Bristol, was visiting his grandparents while volunteering in the northern part of the Mediterranean island.

However, just two weeks after his disappearance, Italian authorities suspended their search.

His mother Cristina Pitallis had to continue her search alone to find her son, after he left this phone, this laptop and this identity document in his home.

Mr. Frison's mother, Cristina Pittalis, flew to the island, where she said her son left that phone, laptop and ID at his home on six occasions.

“That’s what moms do. It’s a love that gives you the power to keep going and not stop,” she told ITV.

“You just have to find the courage and not be afraid of anything or anyone. I am not afraid to go against the authorities if necessary.

Following her call on Italian TV show “Chi L’Ha Vista”, she revealed that Italian authorities have now improved the investigation.

“The authorities are now potentially changing the line of investigation,” Cristina told the outlet.

“It hasn’t been officially communicated to me, but I think now it will probably be investigated as a crime.”

The mother revealed it was “out of character” for her son to disappear without contacting his family. She traveled to the island six times to try to find him.

She begged Michael’s friend Naomi, who he allegedly met on the island, because she believes the woman might have details of his whereabouts.

“I need you, Naomi. I need your help. You did nothing wrong,” Cristina pleaded, “However, you were the last person to be with Michael.”

“You can still help us understand Michael’s state of mind and perhaps the reasons for his disappearance.”

A close family friend spoke to MailOnline, revealing the anguish of seeing Michael’s family dealing with his disappearance.

“At first, when someone goes missing, you panic and want to find, find, find, but over time you go through phases of grieving,” she said.

“It’s very painful, she (Michael’s mother) goes through ups and downs, she gets little crumbs of information and the downs aren’t him.”

“Three and a half months later, we are trying to rely on the authorities and put pressure to advance the investigation and question the people present at the time,” she added.

“Ideally we need some support from the UK. What that looks like, I don’t know.”

“For someone to disappear without a phone or card is strange. Ultimately we just want to find him, whatever it may seem like, we don’t know.

“Someone somewhere knows what happened to him.”

In a video previously shared on social media, Ms Pittalis said Mr Frison’s younger brother Emanuele was “suffering” from Michael’s absence.

In a voicemail, Mr Frison’s younger brother said: “I miss you, come home.”

Organizer Evie Baker wrote: “On Saturday July 13, Michael went missing in Sardinia. He was supposed to start volunteering, but he wasn’t feeling well, wasn’t used to the hot climate and may have been dehydrated. He was given water and fell asleep.

“When he woke up he said he was going for a walk and now, unfortunately, he has disappeared.

“I can’t tell you how truly lovely this family is, I’m absolutely heartbroken for them.”
