4 teens arrested in Northwest DC for attempted armed carjacking

The Metropolitan Police Department announced the arrest of four teenagers under the age of 15 for an attempted armed carjacking in Northwest, DC.

Around 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, the group surrounded the driver next to his motorcycle in the 4200 block of Kansas Avenue, according to a police report.

A 15-year-old boy brandished a handgun and demanded the victim’s motorcycle. When a witness tried to intervene, the group fled. Police said the victim was then able to flag down a nearby officer.

Police chased the boy with the gun on foot through the yards of two homes and over fences, before finally catching up with the suspect, authorities said.

The victim identified the alleged car thief. While the victim was being questioned, the three other teens came to the scene and the victim identified them, police said. Shortly after, one of the homeowners in the yard the boy ran through found his handgun.

The 15-year-old boy was arrested and charged with armed carjacking with a firearm and carrying a pistol without a license. A 15-year-old girl, a 12-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy were all arrested and charged with armed carjacking with a firearm, according to an MPD news release.

The suspects were transported to a nearby juvenile treatment center.
