Investigation opened after video of fight involving council workers – The Irish News

Belfast City Council said it was “urgently” investigating after footage emerged online showing council staff involved in a fight with a member of the public.

The video shows an altercation in the Great Victoria Street area of ​​the city center around 3:40 a.m. on Thursday, October 10.

A Belfast City Council spokesperson said it was aware of the images circulating on social media and was looking into the matter “as a matter of urgency”.

“We are aware of images circulating online that appear to show members of municipal staff involved in an altercation with a member of the public,” the statement said.

“We are looking into this matter urgently and have no further comment at this time.”

The PSNI is liaising with the council as the investigation continues.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “We are aware of footage of this incident circulating on social media. We are assessing the content of these images and are in contact with partners at Belfast City Council as the investigation continues.



“Anyone with information should contact police on 101 and quote reference 131 of 10/10/24.

“Our investigations into this matter are ongoing.”
