Man detained in connection with homicide near Mount Baldy

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man in connection with a homicide near Mount Baldy and Stoddard Canyon Falls in the San Gabriel Mountains, authorities said.

Deputies responded around 3:30 p.m. Saturday to a reported assault on Mount Baldy Road in the San Gabriel Mountains, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Department. The area is a popular hiking destination, with waterfalls and pools.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a man suffering from chest trauma, sheriff’s officials said. The victim, who has not been publicly identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A few kilometers away, the police came across a man who had been in a car accident while walking away from the crime scene. He was arrested in connection with a homicide investigation, authorities said.

It is unclear whether the inmate is a suspect or witness to the homicide.
