Former Frisco cop arrested for felony theft – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

A former Frisco police officer was arrested for felony theft by a public servant after authorities said he stole funds from the Frisco Police Officers Association (FPOA), where he served as treasurer.

Colby Hill, a sergeant with more than 12 years with the department, resigned abruptly on August 7, according to the Frisco Police Department.

After his resignation, police said an investigation revealed Hill had embezzled funds from the FPOA.

Frisco Police Chief David Shilson immediately launched an internal investigation and asked the Texas Rangers to conduct a criminal investigation, authorities said.

After the Rangers’ investigation, a warrant for Hill’s arrest was issued and he turned himself in to the Collin County Sheriff’s Office on October 3.

In a press release sent to NBC 5, the police department said the FPOA is an independent, nonprofit organization not affiliated with the City of Frisco. It is governed by a board composed of sworn officers and civilian members of the Frisco Police Department.

The organization supports charitable and political activities and is funded by member dues, donations and fundraising efforts.

“Wearing a badge as a police officer is a position of public trust,” Chief Shilson said in a statement released Tuesday, Oct. 15. “This former police officer not only betrayed the trust of the community, but also betrayed the trust of our FPD. family. He stole charity money from his colleagues and used it for his personal gain.

Shilson also expressed gratitude to the Texas Rangers for their “prompt and thorough investigation.”
