BronxWorks Announces Data Breach Resulting from Unauthorized Access to Employee Email Account | Console and related, PC

On October 24, 2024, BronxWorks filed a data breach notification with the Massachusetts Attorney General after discovering that an unauthorized party was able to access an employee’s email account. In this notice, BronxWorks explains that the incident allowed an unauthorized party to access sensitive consumer information, including their names, social security numbers, passport numbers, digital signatures, medical information, financial account information and driving license numbers. Once its investigation was completed, BronxWorks began sending data breach notification letters to everyone whose information was affected by the recent data security incident.

What caused the BronxWorks data breach?

The BronxWorks data breach was only recently announced and more information is expected in the near future. However, BronxWorks’ filing with the Massachusetts Attorney General provides important information about what led to the breach. BronxWorks also posted a notice on its website discussing the incident.

According to these sources, BronxWorks recently learned that an unauthorized person was able to access some employees’ email accounts. In response, BronxWorks secured the potentially compromised accounts and then launched an investigation to learn more about the incident.

Through its investigation, BronxWorks learned that an unauthorized actor accessed multiple email accounts and employee documents stored on the organization’s SharePoint and OneDrive platforms between September 1, 2023 and October 11, 2023. He It was subsequently determined that some of the emails, attachments, and files accessed by the unauthorized party contained confidential information belonging to certain individuals.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was being accessed by an unauthorized party, BronxWorks reviewed the compromised files to determine what information had been disclosed and which consumers were affected. Although the information disclosed varies among individuals, it may include your name, social security number, passport number, digital signature, medical information, financial account information, and driver’s license number.

On October 24, 2024, BronxWorks sent data breach letters to anyone affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of their information that has been compromised.
