Sioux City man pleads guilty to gun charge

SIOUX CITY — A Sioux City man suspected of being involved in a fatal shooting has pleaded guilty to a gun charge in federal court.

Terrance Hayes, 40, entered pleas Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Sioux City to possession of a firearm by a felon, a drug user and a person convicted of domestic violence.

Hayes admitted that on July 17, 2023, he possessed a 9mm handgun and 9mm and .22 caliber ammunition. Due to his prior convictions for domestic violence and other criminal charges, he was prohibited from possessing firearms.

Sioux City police responded to a fatal stabbing shooting on July 17, 2023, at 406 26th St., where they found Hayes, the resident of the home, inside suffering from multiple stab wounds. Jose Hernandez, 40, of Sioux City, was also found inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds. He later died in a hospital.
