Arsenal fans have hit back at Liverpool legend Graeme Souness, accusing him of being ‘jealous’ of Arsène Wenger’s achievements after claiming the Frenchman had been ‘very lucky’ during his coaching career . Wenger is widely regarded as one of the greatest managers in recent history, with three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups to his name during his 22 years at Arsenal.

His 2004 Arsenal “Invincibles” team, which won the Premier League without losing a single game, remains an unrivaled feat in top-flight English football. However, Souness isn’t too impressed, based on his comments on the Three Up Front podcast.

Asked if Wenger was a “football man”, he replied: “No, not particularly. I have been on the bench, I listened to what he told his players to do. J I worked for Sky in matches where he performed very well.

Souness also questioned Wenger’s tactics and his willingness to discuss football, saying: “He would never come to my office after a match, the only manager who never did. I used to go to his office after a match , he would never be there to talk about football. I don’t know if he’s a football man or not.

Today, supporters responded to Souness’ remarks. One fan wrote: “This reeks of jealousy in my opinion. What nonsense.” Another commented: “Wenger sacrificed his life for football and suffered for it.”

“Only to be spoken to like this by miserable, ignorant people like Souness. I hate the way shows exist because of extreme opinions and hatred.” A third added: “He’s not a football man because he refused to speak to Graeme Souness after a match, what a strange person.”

This is not the first time Souness has criticized Wenger, reports the Mirror. He previously told talkSPORT: “I think he’s had a fantastic 10 years, but he inherited arguably the best defenders in world football. He had a knowledge of French football when France produced the best group of players in the history of French football and he had an idea before everyone else.

“For 10 years they were the real deal, then for another decade I don’t think he came close. I think (the biggest legacy) goes to Fergie, he built three or four teams, his legacy is the greatest.”
