Police Juror Jay Scott Files Complaint Against Another Juror

ALEXANDRIA, Louisiana (KALB) – Police juror Jay Scott filed a complaint with the Louisiana Board of Ethics against fellow juror Ernest Nelson, citing a violation of the Louisiana Code of Government Ethics.

In Scott’s Oct. 8 letter to the board, he explained that Nelson was appointed to the jury following the death of juror Theodore Fountaine in November of last year.

Under Louisiana Revised Act 42, no person appointed to any seat may qualify for the seat to which he or she was nominated in the next election cycle. However, Scott explained that Nelson has qualified and is actively running for the seat he was nominated for in November 2023. Scott calls for accountability and fair enforcement of laws, saying in part: “If the Our state’s laws mean whatever they are, they apply equally to everyone.

We have contacted jury foreman Joe Bishop and juror Ernest Nelson for comment and are awaiting their response.
