Man accuses ex-wife and lawyer of extortion

Ahmedabad: A 24-year-old resident of Naroda filed a complaint for extortion and criminal intimidation against his ex-wife and his 55-year-old lawyer from Himmatnagar. The complaint, registered under the Indian Penal Code on Monday, said the couple got married on April 12 last year in the presence of the bride’s uncle. However, in September, she filed a complaint for harassment, cheating, forgery and using fake documents as genuine, alongside other sections of the IPC.
The Naroda resident states in the FIR that he was arrested and released on bail in June this year.
He said that during the hearing, he met his wife and his lawyer, a native of Himmatnagar, outside the court. The lawyer presented himself as a member of a state legal unit and claimed to be an influential man.
He then allegedly threatened the complainant, asking him to either opt for an amicable settlement with his ex-wife by paying Rs 25 lakh or be involved in other matters.
The complainant said he recorded the conversation with his wife and lawyer on his cell phone and submitted it to the cops on a USB drive. He also submitted an application to the Navrangpura police, which was registered as an FIR on Monday.
