Watch: Northern Lights over Iceland in time-lapse footage

Time-lapse photos have captured the Northern Lights on the outskirts of the capital Reykjavik.

The lights, also known as the northern lights, occur when charged particles collide with gases in Earth’s atmosphere around the magnetic poles. When they collide, light is emitted at different wavelengths, creating colorful displays in the sky.

Auroras are most often observed over high polar latitudes and are primarily influenced by geomagnetic storms originating from the Sun’s activity.
