What caused the Landmark admin data breach?

The Landmark Admin data breach was only recently announced and more information is expected in the near future. However, Landmark Admin’s filing with the Maine Attorney General provides important information about what led to the violation. According to this source, on May 13, 2024, Landmark Admin detected suspicious activity within its computer network. The next day, Landmark Admin determined that an unauthorized party had attempted to gain access to its network.

In response, Landmark Admin secured its systems and then brought in third-party cybersecurity experts to conduct an investigation. While this investigation is ongoing, Landmark Admin has learned that the unauthorized party was able to regain access to its computer network on June 17, 2024, including certain files containing confidential consumer information. Thus, the unauthorized activity on Landmark Admin’s systems occurred between May 13, 2024 and June 17, 2024.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was being accessed by an unauthorized party, Landmark Admin reviewed the compromised files to determine what information had been disclosed and which consumers were affected. Landmark Admin recently completed this process. Although the information disclosed varies between individuals, it may include your name; address; Social security number; driving license number; state-issued identity card number; passport number; bank account and routing number; medical information; health insurance policy number; date of birth; and information about life insurance and annuity policies.
