Two teenagers charged with multiple break-ins after high-speed chase on NSW mid-north coast

New South Wales Police have arrested and charged two teenagers with multiple break-ins following a dramatic car chase on the state’s north coast.

Officers responding to reports of a break-in at Nambucca Heads at around 5.20am on Saturday reportedly discovered a car had been stolen.

Police then spotted a white Hyundai Sonata sedan traveling on Giinagay Way in North Macksville.

After the driver ignored attempts to stop the vehicle, officers initiated a pursuit.

A short time later the sedan stopped abruptly on Cockburns Lane, Warrell Creek, after appearing to catch fire.

Four people then reportedly dove out of the car, and three of them fled the scene on foot.

The fourth, a 14-year-old boy, remained outside the car, on the ground, following a medical problem.

Police assisted the teenager and called NSW Ambulance paramedics to the scene for further medical attention.

The boy was then taken to Macksville Hospital for further evaluation.

NSW Rural Fire Brigade then arrived and began putting out the car fire. They managed to put out the fire, but not before the vehicle was destroyed.

After he was released from hospital, police arrested the 14-year-old and took him to Kempsey police station.

He was subsequently charged with two counts of transporting or arresting without the consent of the owner, two counts of aggravated breaking and entering to commit a serious indictable offence, theft and carrying a sharp weapon during his arrest and breach of bail.

Meanwhile, officers continued to search for the other occupants of the Hyundai and at 7:50 a.m. Saturday located a 16-year-old boy after spotting him walking along the Pacific Highway near Eungai Creek.

The teenager was also arrested and taken to Kempsey Police Station where he was charged with two counts of transporting or removing without the consent of the owner, two counts of aggravated break and enter with intent to commit a serious criminal offense and theft.

The 14- and 16-year-olds were refused bail and were due to appear in the Port Macquarie Children’s Court on Sunday.

Authorities are urging any members of the public with information, or who can help identify and locate the other two passengers, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000..
