Asante Kotoko confirms disappearance of two players in the United States, Fairfax County police open investigation

  • Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko have confirmed that two of the players are missing ahead of their match against DC United.

Asante Kotoko has confirmed that two players from its United States team absconded hours before their match against DC United in the Capital City Cup.

The two players, both foreigners, left the camp without authorization and have not been found since.

Esmat AbdalHamid Mohamed and Obdoelkarem Yoouef Yagoub, both from Sudan and among the few players granted visas for the match against the MLS team.

Asante Kotoko reported the matter to U.S. authorities, and Fairfax County police investigated the matter.

“Asante Kotoko SC regrets to inform our supporters and the public that two players, Esmat AbdalHamid Mohamed and Obdoelkarem Yoouef Yagoub, both of Sudanese nationality, are currently absent from the camp,” we can read on the club’s official website .

“The players left the team hotel without authorization on Friday, October 11, 2024, and all efforts to contact or locate them were unsuccessful. The club has officially notified state law enforcement authorities -United and cooperate fully to ensure their safe return.

“We urge our supporters to remain calm while we work with the relevant authorities.”

Having struggled to secure player visas for the match at the Audi Field, the Porcupine Warriors are having to merge with a Ghanaian team in the USA to secure the required numbers for the match, as reported by Ghana Web.

Several players were not left out with only seven players and the technical team in the United States.

With both players fleeing, Kotoko is left with only five players.

Two Asante Kotoko players missing

Earlier, Yen.com.gh reported that two Kumasi Asante Kotoko players allegedly absconded after arriving in the United States for the Capital City Cup match against DC United.

The players, Sudanese nationals, Abdoel Karem Yagoub and defender Esmat Al Hasan left the camp and have not yet been found.

The duo who joined the Porcupine Warriors before the start of the season were reportedly spotted hanging out in a car parked outside the team hotel.
