KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) – Kansas election officials have begun preparing for the upcoming election by beefing up security to keep an eye out for violence and intimidation.

U.S. Attorney for the District of Kansas Kate E. Brubacher announced Wednesday, Oct. 16, that Assistant U.S. Attorney Jared Maag will lead efforts to connect the Department of Justice to the national Election Day agenda. He was appointed district elections officer in Kansas.

“Every citizen must be able to vote without interference or discrimination and have their vote counted in fair and free elections,” Brubacher said. “Similarly, public officials and election staff must be able to serve without being subjected to unlawful threats of violence. The Department of Justice will always work tirelessly to protect the integrity of the electoral process.

Brubacher emphasized that the Department of Justice plays an important role in deterring and combatting discrimination and intimidation in elections. This includes threats of violence against election officials and poll workers as well as voter fraud. The Election Day program pursues these objectives with local contact points.

“The right to vote is the cornerstone of American democracy,” Brubacher said. “We must all ensure that those who have the right to vote can exercise it if they wish and that those who seek to corrupt it are brought to justice. In order to respond to complaints regarding voting rights issues and electoral fraud in the upcoming elections, and to ensure that these complaints are directed to the appropriate authorities, AUSA/DEO Maag will be on duty in this district while the polling stations are open. vote.

Additionally, the U.S. Attorney indicated that the Federal Bureau of Investigation would have special agents in each field office to investigate allegations of fraud and other election abuses on Election Day.

“Ensuring free and fair elections depends largely on the help of the American electorate. It is important that those who have specific information about voting rights issues or voter fraud make that information available to the Department of Justice,” Brubacher concluded.
