576 complaints of violation of Maharashtra voting code received on EC’s cVIGIL app: official – ThePrint –

Mumbai, Oct 19 (PTI) As many as 576 complaints of violation of the code of conduct for the Maharashtra Assembly elections have been received on the Election Commission’s cVIGIL app since October 15, an official said on Saturday.

Of these, 563 complaints (or 98 per cent) have been resolved, Additional Chief Electoral Officer Kiran Kulkarni said in a statement.

Various enforcement agencies of the state government seized illegal cash, liquor, drugs and precious metals collectively worth Rs 14.90 crore, he said.

The cVIGIL app connects vigilant citizens with teams from the District Control Room, Returning Officer and Flying Squads. Through this app, citizens can immediately report incidents of political misconduct within minutes and without having to rush to the returning officer’s office.

As soon as the complaint is sent on this application, the complainant will receive a unique identifier through which he can track the complaint on his mobile.

After receiving a complaint, a team is assigned the responsibility of carrying out an investigation and initiating appropriate measures.

After the election code came into force, various advertisements including murals, posters, banners, cutouts and flex banners planted on government and private lands and public places were removed, the official said.

Similarly, a process has been initiated to take action against unauthorized advertisements, Kulkarni said.

At the same time, the state government departments have been instructed not to select beneficiaries of any government welfare schemes as the poll code is in force. Likewise, no new projects can be announced and the authorization of the electoral body will be mandatory for the distribution of funds from social protection schemes.

Kulkarni said that various provisions of the model code of conduct are being effectively implemented.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) are seeking to retain power in the November 20 elections to the 288-member Assembly.
