Police uncover mystery behind body found in box in Hadapsar

Pune: the Hadapsar Font Sunday claimed to have unraveled the mystery behind the body of an unidentified man found Friday morning stuffed in a cardboard box in Hingnemala, following the suspect’s arrest.
Police identified the victim as Imran Yasin Patel (24), a casual worker at Undri Chowk in Kondhwa.
According to the police, the murder was caused by Patel’s failure to return the borrowed money. “We stopped Nizamuddin Patel (30), also from Kondhwa, in connection with the murder. He does odd jobs in town. Nizamuddin knew Patel very well. He told investigators during interrogation that Patel had borrowed Rs 1 lakh from him and was not returning the money,” deputy commissioner of police (zone V) R Raja told TOI.
“Nizamuddin told us that on Thursday evening, he called Patel to an isolated area and asked for his money. When Patel informed Nizamuddin that he was unable to return the amount, a heated verbal exchange took place . Nizamuddin then slammed Patel’s head against a wall and “We strangled him. We are checking whether Nizamuddin took help of any other person to execute the crime,” he said.

After the body was found, police began looking into missing person complaints. They circulated the victim’s report to all the police stations. “The Kondhwa police had registered a missing person’s complaint a day before the murder came to light on Friday. We contacted the relatives of the missing person and asked them to visit Hadapsar police station to identify the body. The relative identified the body as that of Imran Patel,” Raja said.
Patel’s cousin, Asif Patel (29) from Loni Kalbhor, filed a complaint in this regard.
“Our team collected information about Patel’s financial transactions, personal issues and other aspects. We found during this exercise that Patel had borrowed Rs1 lakh from Nizamuddin,” he said.
