Conway man pleads guilty to machine gun possession

FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) — A Conway man pleaded guilty in Florence federal court to several gun possession charges, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Tuesday.

Orlanier Colon Menendez, 21, pleaded guilty to possession of a machine gun and several machine gun conversion devices. He faces a maximum of 10 years in federal prison, a fine of up to $250,000 and three years of post-imprisonment supervision.

Conway police officers responded to a vehicle crash involving Menendez, the DOJ said. During his investigation, the responding officer located a .45 caliber handgun with a machine gun conversion device installed.

Officers also found a backpack during a search containing 12 additional machine gun conversion devices, also known as Glock conversion switches, as well as a rotary tool with accessories commonly used to install the devices, according to the DOJ.

The case was investigated by Conway police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
