Delco GOP claims protesters cornered volunteers at Trump campaign headquarters in media

The Delaware County GOP said it was looking to improve security at its media headquarters after four protesters cornered volunteers Thursday at the Delaware County GOP offices, which also serve as the party’s campaign headquarters. former President Donald Trump in the county.

Frank Agovino, chairman of the county GOP, said protesters marched toward Trump’s campaign offices on the second floor of media headquarters Thursday morning and cornered two volunteers chanting “Trump is lying, people are dying” against both women volunteers. the GOP office. The demonstrators filmed the workers with their cell phones, police sources said.

“It was total intimidation,” Agovino said. “And it’s not justified.”

A spokesperson for Trump in Pennsylvania did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In a statement, the Delaware County GOP said protesters left the office after a local GOP leader who was on the first floor of the building heard the commotion and intervened. Police were then called, the statement said.

When Media Police officers arrived minutes later, they confronted the group and warned them not to return or they would be charged with trespassing, according to police sources close to the investigation. The group left and no charges were filed.

Although no one was injured, Agovino said the situation was scary for the two volunteers who were minding their own business and felt unsafe.

This incident highlights heightened tension and concerns about political violence around the November election. This cycle has been marked by unprecedented levels of security concerns among the candidates themselves, including two assassination attempts against Trump.

“Everyone is on alert,” Agovino said.

Colleen Guiney, chairwoman of the Delaware County Democratic Party, said she didn’t know exactly who the protesters were, but agreed with the county Republican Party that the intimidation was unacceptable.

However, Guiney said, when Trump opened his campaign, he “opened Pandora’s box.”

“I don’t think his rhetoric was helpful to the process, but it’s still no excuse,” she said.
