Man arrested for sexual harassment of co-passenger on Delhi-Chennai IndiGo flight

A 43-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a female passenger aboard an IndiGo flight traveling from Delhi to Chennai, according to local authorities. The accused, identified as Rajesh Sharma, was apprehended on Wednesday evening following a formal complaint filed by the survivor.

The woman reported to police that she was sitting in front of Sharma during the robbery and that the accused touched her inappropriately while she was sleeping, as reported by Deccan Herald.

Reports suggest that the woman immediately screamed and informed the flight attendant.

However, as the incident occurred mid-flight, it prompted her to seek help from airport authorities upon landing.

Chennai Police revealed that Sharma, who hails from Rajasthan but has been residing in Chennai for a long time, has been charged under Section 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with sexual harassment, Hindustan Times reported .

Airport staff helped the victim file a complaint after the flight landed in Chennai, and investigation into the matter is underway. Authorities are currently investigating the case in more detail.

However, Rajesh alleged that he accidentally touched her and later apologized to her.

A Vistara flight from London to Delhi carrying nearly 290 passengers on board the Boeing 787 received a bomb threat on Wednesday, which was later confirmed to be a hoax after a detailed inspection on landing in the national capital. A note containing a bomb threat was discovered in one of the plane’s toilets, prompting authorities to take immediate action.

Stating that a thorough inspection of the aircraft was carried out, the Delhi Police also confirmed that standard safety procedures were followed. “No suspicious objects were found,” police said, according to PTI.
