Manipur cabinet implements new rules on village recognition, government schemes

The Manipur Cabinet said residents of unrecognized villages would no longer be eligible for government schemes such as MGNREGS. This follows reports of many hilltop villages being recognized without permission by officials, revealed by Chief Minister N Biren Singh earlier this week.

The Cabinet, led by the Chief Minister, took up 51 listed and several unlisted schemes, including ‘disturbed area’ status of the state and extension of AFSPA for another six months, excluding 19 areas of Imphal valley and a border region of Assam.

The health minister reported a drop in dengue cases compared to last year, calling on the public to cooperate to prevent serious outbreaks. The Cabinet also discussed recruitment of contractual jobs, appointments of police officers on humanitarian grounds and acquisition of land for a police station in Joujangtek.
