Unauthorized travel: DEO files police complaint against Maninagar school

Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad District Education Officer (DEO) office on Tuesday filed a complaint against a private school in Maninagar in Khokhra Police Station. The complaint concerned the organization of a student trip without authorization from the Ministry of Education. Maninagar Seventh-day Adventist Higher Secondary School, Ahmedabad, was recently served with a show cause notice by the DEO office for organizing an unauthorized educational trip for its students.
On September 29, the school took 200 students to a water park in Mehsana without seeking necessary approval from the DEO office and education department authorities. This action was in direct violation of government regulations, as the Schools Commissioner’s office had previously implemented a ban on school trips until new guidelines were put in place.
The Ahmedabad city DEO, after taking notice of the incident, issued a show-cause notice to the school on Monday, demanding an explanation for its actions. The school admitted failing to apply for travel permission, leading the DEO to lodge a formal complaint at the Khokhra police station against the school administration for endangering the safety of students .
Sources said the education ministry is also preparing a comprehensive report on the incident, which will be submitted to the school board. This report will include a recommendation to revoke the school’s NOC. The Education Ministry will take further decisions based on the findings of this report, sources said.
