North Alabama man pleads guilty to lesser charge in 2021 machete attack on family

A Lauderdale County man accused in a 2021 attack on several members of his family was sentenced to prison today after pleading guilty to lesser charges.

Kyle Seeley, 37, pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree assault.

He was sentenced to three cumulative 25-year prison terms, according to court documents.

Seeley initially faced six counts of attempted murder following an incident on May 26, 2021, on County Road 57 in the Underwood community.

Deputies along with members of the Florence Police Department responded to reports of a man attacking six family members with multiple weapons.

Authorities said Seeley threw a Molotov cocktail at his parents’ house and shot his parents.

He then injured his brother with a machete, as well as his own children in front of each other, according to investigators.

After attacking his family, Seeley then locked himself in a shed behind his parents’ house for at least three hours, authorities said. Seeley attempted to flee the hangar after law enforcement fired tear gas into the hangar.

He was then taken into custody.
