Tom Selleck in the trailer for season 14 of “Blue Bloods”

The Tom Selleck-led crime series begins its new promo with a celebration of its “14 Seasons of Unforgettable Memories,” featuring a quick montage of some of the show’s biggest moments: weddings, babies, family reunions and, of course, arrests. “It is with deep praise and gratitude that I welcome you, ready to serve and protect the most vibrant city in the world,” Frank Reagan (Selleck) told a class of new NYPD officers.

As the celebratory footage unfolds, the series’ lead actors remind us of their driving motivations. “Being a good detective is catching bad guys, reuniting families, saving lives,” Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) explains. “I became a prosecutor and I’m really good at it,” Erin (Bridget Moynahan) says. “Really, I always wanted to be a cop,” Jamie (Will Estes) adds. “When we have everyone we love, we have everything and for that we should be grateful,” Frank says. “Believe me, there’s more to this story.”

From there we see New York City Mayor Peter Chase (Dylan Walsh) holding a press conference at a hospital that hints at a threat to the Reagans’ livelihood. “Our city has seen a drastic increase in random crime,” he says. “Our police officers are doing everything they can. But it’s time for stronger medicine.”

Frank notes with emotion his disagreement with Chase. “Out there with the mayor, I’ll tell thousands of New York City police officers, ‘You can’t do your job.'” After his family asks him what he’s going to do, Frank responds: I hope it’s the right thing.”

A convict played by Edward James Olmos then grills Frank in his office. “Look at yourself in the mirror,” he says. “You think you’re the right guy.”

Meanwhile, Erin appears to have been arrested in her own office. “Erin Reagan, you have the right to remain silent,” said Queens District Attorney Evaline Romano (Debi Mazar). “I don’t know what I’ll do if I’m disbarred,” Erin says.

And Danny seems to be in a sticky situation himself. While we see footage showing him agitated and becoming a little violent during the arrests, Frank defends him: “My son is a decorated cop and a great family man.” But a skeptical Grace (Lori Loughlin) notes, “He also comes from New York’s most visible police family and has a reputation as a very loose cannon.” Danny emotionally tells his grandfather Henry (Len Cariou), “It’s just getting a little personal.” The trailer ends with intense footage of fast-paced police operations.
